Hummus Spread Or Dip

 


Here's a basic recipe for Classic Hummus:


Ingredients:


  1. 1 can (15 ounces) chickpeas (also known as garbanzo beans), drained and rinsed
  2. 1/4 cup tahini (sesame seed paste)
  3. 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (about 1 large lemon)
  4. 1 small garlic clove, minced
  5. 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for serving
  6. 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  7. Salt, to taste
  8. 2 to 3 tablespoons water
  9. Optional garnishes: chopped fresh parsley, paprika, additional olive oil, pine nuts, or whole chickpeas


Instructions:


  • Combine the drained chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, minced garlic, olive oil, cumin, and a pinch of salt in a food processor.
  • Process the mixture until smooth, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed to ensure everything is well combined. If the mixture seems too thick, add 2 to 3 tablespoons of water, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired consistency.
  • Taste the hummus and adjust the seasoning with more salt or lemon juice if needed, according to your preferences.
  • Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl. You can create a swirl pattern on top with the back of a spoon and drizzle a little extra olive oil over the surface.
  • Garnish the hummus with chopped fresh parsley, a sprinkle of paprika, toasted pine nuts, or whole chickpeas if desired.
  • Serve the hummus with pita bread, fresh vegetables, crackers, or any other accompaniment you like.
